Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced on Monday that Julian Draxler has left the club for the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli for a €20 million fee.
The German is the third PSG player after Marco Veratti and Abdou Diallo to leave for a Qatari club and the transfer has rung bells at the UEFA headquarters.
Veratti was sold to Al-Arabi SC for €50 million while Diallo completed his move for €15 million which makes a total of €85m.
The transfer has now become a doubt as every time the French club needed a sale this season to balance the books and to avoid the Financial Fair Play (FFP) sanctions, a sale was made to a Qatari club.
PSG is owned by the Qatari Sports Investment (QSI) and the sales made to the other Qatari clubs have raised doubt among the UEFA headquarters as the highest European body is ready to launch an investigation against the French club.
According to a reliable French source L'Equipe, UEFA could freeze these sums (€85m) so that they do not count in their accounts, as well as facing a possible sanction.
These transfers will also be examined by the Financial Control Committee, which will have to prove the closeness between the buyer and the seller so the necessary actions can be taken against the football club.
La Liga president Javier Tebas was the first to notice these movements and raised his voice on the matter by denouncing PSG’s actions.
“We can do like France, which does not control PSG while selling Marco Verratti to Qatar for more than 40 million euros, or I don't know how much. We can do that too, find a satellite country to buy players from us for a big profit and then buy all the players we want. I don't think so," commented the LaLiga boss.
Draxler was another player to leave PSG after being discarded by the new head coach Luis Enrique who is starting a new era at the French club with 14 new players.
